Good causes: charities, CICs, clubs and community groups

Websites for good causes, with the price you actually pay

Half of UK voluntary organisations have an income under £10,000 and most cannot recover VAT, so a website is often the last thing the budget reaches. We build three to five free each year, and offer the same build at a fixed, VAT-inclusive price to every other good cause.

Who can apply

"Good cause" is deliberate: you do not need to be a registered charity.

  • Any organisation doing good without a budget for it: a registered charity, a CIC, a constituted community group, a club, a PTA, a mutual-aid group. Charity registration is not required.
  • A clear need: no site, or one that is costing you donations, volunteers or time
  • No budget for a site, or a budget that a grant has not yet covered
  • Someone on your side who can supply content and make decisions

How we choose the free sites

3–5 a year, reviewed quarterly. Every applicant gets a reply, and the fixed-price package is open to everyone who qualifies.

  • Impact: what changes for the people you serve if the site works
  • Need: income, existing presence and what you have tried
  • Readiness: content, photos and a decision-maker available over four to six weeks
  • Sustainability: the organisation will still be here in two years

The package

The sites are the same quality as our commercial work: accessible to WCAG 2.2 AA, fast on a phone, with donations and Gift Aid, and, for registered charities, set up to qualify for Google Ad Grants. Good-cause prices include VAT at 20%.

    Typically Day 30

Paying for it

Small unrestricted grants often cover a website when it is framed as service delivery. These are the routes we point applicants to.

  • National Lottery Awards for All

Decision in about 16 weeks; frame the site as service delivery, not "a new website".

  • Marsh Charitable Trust

    Small unrestricted grants.

  • Grants for Good

    Small charities and community groups.

  • Leathersellers' Foundation

    Small grants programme.

  • Google Ad Grants

Registered charities only. Needs an owned domain, HTTPS and substantial original content, which the good-cause website delivers.

Questions people ask

Do we have to be a registered charity?
No. Registered charities, CICs, constituted community groups, clubs, PTAs and mutual-aid groups all qualify, for the free sites and for the fixed-price package. What matters is a clear need, no budget for a site and someone who can make decisions.
Who gets the free websites?
Good causes with a clear need and no budget for a site. We choose three to five a year against the published criteria and publish the results.
Why are your good-cause prices shown including VAT?
Because most charities, CICs and community groups are not VAT-registered and cannot recover it, so a price without VAT is 20% more than it looks. Ours are the price you pay.
Can a new site really get us Google Ad Grants?
If you are a registered charity, yes: Google Ad Grants gives eligible charities up to $10,000 a month of search advertising. It requires an owned domain, HTTPS and substantial original content, which is exactly what the good-cause website delivers.
Are there grants that pay for a website?
Small unrestricted grants often can, framed as service delivery rather than "a new website": National Lottery Awards for All (£300–£20,000), Marsh Charitable Trust, Grants for Good, the Leathersellers Foundation and others. We can point you to the funding finders we use.
